Tacoma won’t be short on Halloween plans this weekend. The News Tribune has assembled a guide spanning family activities, costume contests and after-dark celebrations around the city.
Our full story offers a taste of the lineup, including a Sixth Avenue comic shop’s milestone celebration and an afternoon of treats, music and costumed pets on Antique Row. Those are only two of the options waiting in the complete guide.

Tacoma’s Past Is Moving Into a Historic Downtown Warehouse

After months of packing and preparation, the Tacoma History Museum will open its new permanent home at 2122 Commerce St. with a public grand opening on Saturday, Nov. 21. The museum is moving into the historic Hunt & Mottet warehouses in the Brewery Blocks, placing Tacoma’s past inside a building that is part of that history.
Visitors will get their first look at a new exhibit built around 20 artifacts from the city’s past. The celebration will also include history-themed games, a community art project, cookies and tea, a sidewalk book sale and limited-edition Tacoma Historical Society stickers.

What Remains Turns Grief Into Art in Downtown Tacoma

More than a dozen Tacoma artists are exploring life, death, grief and the things people carry forward in What Remains, a new group exhibition opening Nov. 2 at TygerWolf Tattoo.
The show brings together painting, photography, textiles, printmaking and mixed media on the studio’s second floor. Its opening reception will also include a guided writing experience inviting visitors to put their own encounters with grief into words.
