Halloween Comes Early to McKinley Hill This Saturday

McKinley Hill is getting into the Halloween spirit a few weeks early. This Saturday, its Haunted Street Fair returns with free admission, live music, local vendors, food, and plenty of reasons to wear a costume.
Now in its second year, the neighborhood celebration has something for shoppers, music lovers, and families with little monsters in tow. Two performance stages and a dedicated kids’ zone are part of the mix—and there’s more to explore than a quick walk past the booths.

A New Salvadoran Kitchen Is Serving Up Pupusas on Sixth Avenue

Sixth Avenue has a new stop for stuffed pupusas, Salvadoran tamales and a meal that could become part of your regular rotation. Comal en Brasa brings Salvadoran and Mexican cooking to Tacoma’s West End, with a familiar local business behind its opening.
There’s a build-your-own option for the curious, plenty beyond pupusas, and weekend hours that stretch well past the usual dinner rush. The story behind this new kitchen starts with a neighboring business—and a decision to give the food its own front door.

North Slope’s Pocket Park Is Getting a Fresh Start

One of Tacoma’s smallest parks is getting a new chapter, and neighbors are invited to help it take root. North Slope Historic Park will celebrate its improved playground on October 24 with a morning of planting, bringing the community back into a space it helped shape.
The changes go beyond replacing aging equipment. Hundreds of people weighed in on what this little neighborhood park should offer—and its history includes a very different kind of power. There’s a story behind this corner of Tacoma, along with a chance to become part of what comes next..
