What’s That Glass Piece Worth? Tacoma Invites You to Find Out
Maybe it was handed down by a relative. Maybe you spotted it at an estate sale. Either way, that glass piece on your shelf has left you with a question: What exactly do I have?
Museum of Glass is giving visitors a chance to ask at What Is My Glass Worth? on Saturday, October 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The museum will set up booths in its Grand Hall where people can bring glass pieces for evaluation. Visitors can also learn about collecting glass and identifying authentic work.
It’s an opportunity to hear more than a number. A piece’s maker, design or place in glassmaking history may turn out to be the most interesting part of its story.
The event is part of the museum’s Forged in Fire program, which explores American glassmaking from its colonial beginnings through the studio glass movement and the work of Tacoma native Dale Chihuly.
That makes Tacoma a fitting place to bring a mystery piece. The city has a deep connection to glass art, and the museum’s Hot Shop lets visitors watch the craft in action.
Regular museum admission is required, and the museum asks visitors to RSVP. The event takes place at Museum of Glass, 1801 Dock Street. Its listing does not specify a limit on pieces per visitor, so check the event details before packing up a collection.
