The Marriott Tacoma Downtown has a new management team and a new vision for how the hotel can serve guests and the community. Coury Hospitality took over hotel operations after the property’s previous owner went through receivership.
The 304-room hotel opened in November 2020, during the pandemic. Coury Hospitality President Andrew Casperson told The News Tribune the team is now focused on getting to know employees, building its service culture, and strengthening ties with the Greater Tacoma Convention Center and other local partners.
One early project is a reimagined restaurant and lounge in the lobby. The hotel plans to keep a full-service restaurant, but reshape the space to feel more like a shared living room where guests, convention attendees, and Tacoma residents can gather. The team hopes to finish the work by the end of the first quarter and launch in spring, though the design and menu are still being developed.
Coury is also considering a grab-and-go coffee shop and ways to make better use of the rooftop, potentially with meeting space and pop-up events for the community. The company says it is still developing concepts, so costs have not been determined. The News Tribune spoke with Casperson about what’s planned and what remains undecided—read the full interview here.
