Berliner Beerhall Has Quietly Changed Hands
If you’ve recently raised a glass at Berliner Beerhall, you may not have noticed anything different. But according to The News Tribune, the German restaurant at 2401 Pacific Avenue has new owners. The low-key transition was intentional.
Berliner is hard to mistake for anywhere else downtown. Its long communal tables, high ceilings and German beers were designed for the sort of evening that starts with dinner and turns into a gathering.
Getting those doors open took years. Lydia and Dennis Mascarinas bought the building in 2013 and spent a decade bringing their vision for a Tacoma beer hall to life. A brief opening in March 2020 was cut short by the pandemic; Berliner finally celebrated its full opening in 2023.
Today, the restaurant’s website still features the German food and imported beers that helped make it a destination. It also continues to list regular hours, reservations and events.
That makes the ownership news intriguing: a familiar place has entered a new chapter without an obvious change in its dining room. The News Tribune’s report points to a chef with another connection to downtown Tacoma.
