A Tacoma gallery that many residents may never have visited is filling its walls with work from some of Washington’s newest artistic voices.

The second annual Regional Community College Student Art Exhibition is now open inside Tacoma Community College’s Building 4 Art Gallery. Running through October 2, the exhibition features students attending community and technical colleges across Western Washington—not only artists studying at TCC.

That regional scope is what separates the exhibition from a conventional campus art show. By bringing work from several colleges into one gallery, the show gives visitors an opportunity to see how emerging artists from different programs, communities and backgrounds are approaching their craft.

For the participating students, it is also a chance to move their work beyond the classroom and place it before a broader public audience. Some may continue into professional art careers, while others may be publicly exhibiting their work for one of the first times.

The exhibition will conclude with a free reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, October 2. Visitors can meet participating artists and hear directly from the people behind the work.

Admission to the exhibition and reception is free. The gallery is located in Building 4 on TCC’s Tacoma campus, near South 12th Street and Mildred Street, with visitor parking available in Lot G.
