A new café bringing a little tropical flavor to downtown Tacoma is getting ready to open its doors.

Tropical Sip Café is scheduled to open Sept. 4 at 901 Pacific Ave., Suite B, with an all-day concept that stretches from morning coffee and breakfast to smoothies, lunch and late-night drinks.

The new spot plans to offer smoothies and smoothie bowls, breakfast and lunch items, coffee and tea, along with cocktails for customers looking for something stronger later in the day.

One of the more unusual offerings will be daiquiris available to-go, giving the café a decidedly different twist from the typical downtown coffee shop. Washington law places restrictions on alcohol sold for takeout, including requirements involving food purchases and sealed containers.

The idea is to create a place that can serve downtown workers and visitors throughout the day rather than focusing on just breakfast, lunch or nightlife.

Tropical Sip Café is taking over Suite B at 901 Pacific Avenue, putting it right in the heart of downtown Tacoma.

If everything stays on schedule, Tacoma residents won't have long to wait: opening day is planned for Friday, Sept. 4.
