South Tacoma’s Old Barbecue Spot Is Getting a Lebanese Twist

The former Famous Dave’s in Tacoma’s South End is getting a new kitchen—and an unexpected use for its old smokers. Family-owned Tanoor Lebanese Grill & BBQ is preparing to bring its first Pierce County restaurant to the space.
Expect shawarma, fresh pita, shared plates and a barbecue twist that will set this location apart. There’s still a wait before opening day, but the plans give Tacoma diners something new to look forward to.

Tacoma Proposes Cutting Farmers Market Funding as It Tackles a $40 Million Gap

Fresh produce, local vendors and a familiar neighborhood gathering place: Tacoma’s farmers markets offer an easy way to picture what a city budget actually touches. The proposed 2027–2028 spending plan would end longstanding operating support for the downtown and Proctor markets as Tacoma tackles a $40 million General Fund shortfall.
The city expects those markets to continue operating, but their funding would change. Elsewhere, the proposal reaches into community programs, crisis response and city staffing. Here’s what residents should know about the trade-offs—and when you can weigh in before the decisions become final.
