I Almost Threw Out My Keurig. It Wasn't Broken.
Every cup from my Keurig started tasting weak, flat, stale — so I unplugged it and stuck it in a closet. Then I learned the dirty secret of grocery store K-Cups: by the time a pod reaches your kitchen, it's usually spent months going from factory to warehouse to truck to shelf. The flavor oils are long gone. Some brands even over-roast to hide it.
The fix wasn't a new machine. It was fresh pods from Angelino's, a family-owned L.A. roastery that roasts, packs, and ships within 3–5 days — straight to your door, from 39¢ a cup. Over 1,000,000 happy customers. 50+ flavors, no subscription required, and 15% off your first order, applied automatically at checkout.

Tacoma’s Mayor Is Taking Office Hours to Three Local Hangouts

Tacoma Mayor, Anders Ibsen
Have a question for Tacoma’s mayor? This month, your chance to ask it could come at a taqueria, a café or a neighborhood tavern. Mayor Anders Ibsen is taking his office hours around town, inviting residents to talk about what’s happening in their communities.
Three October stops are scheduled, with morning, afternoon and evening options. Whether you have a neighborhood concern, an idea for the city or simply want to meet the mayor, there’s an opportunity coming up—and a canceled date to keep off your calendar.

Step Inside Lowell Elementary’s $35.6 Million Fresh Start

Lowell’s students have already settled into their new school. Next week, the rest of Tacoma gets an invitation to look around. The North End elementary is hosting a public grand-opening celebration with tours for neighbors, families, alumni and anyone curious about what’s been built.
Inside, a distinctive wood structure and Pacific Northwest-inspired design share space with pieces of the school’s past. Whether you remember the old Lowell or have simply watched the construction, this is a chance to see how the new building brings those different chapters together.

Tacoma Volunteers Are Getting Their Hands Dirty for Orcas

Helping Puget Sound’s orcas can start with gardening gloves instead of a boat. On Saturday, October 17, volunteers will gather at Tacoma parks and restoration sites for Orca Recovery Day, planting native vegetation and caring for habitat as part of a regional effort to support the Southern Residents.
The connection between a Tacoma work party and a whale’s next meal might not seem obvious. But that’s what makes this day worth a closer look—and with several local projects welcoming volunteers, there are different ways to put a few hours outdoors to work.
