Santa, Shopping and a Living Tree Are Coming to the Tacoma Dome

It may still be pumpkin season, but the Tacoma Dome is preparing for Christmas. The 44th Tacoma Holiday Festival runs October 15–18, bringing gifts, specialty foods and seasonal entertainment under one roof.
Shopping is only part of the outing. Visitors can meet adoptable dogs, bring a donation for children at Mary Bridge and see a towering Christmas tree with an unusual plan for life after the festival. Here’s what to expect—and what to know before you go.

One Last Slice for Fondi in Proctor

Fondi Pizzeria is closing its Proctor location on Saturday, October 3, less than a year and a half after opening on North Proctor Street. The restaurant says making its food from scratch became too costly and labor-intensive for the Tacoma location to turn a profit.
There’s better news for customers who love its pizza—and for anyone holding a Proctor gift certificate or reward points. Fondi has explained what will happen to both after the Tacoma restaurant closes.

Fairy Doors, Gnomes and a Dispute Over McKinley Park

Follow the trails through McKinley Park and you may spot fairy doors, gnomes and a colorful stone snake. Neighbors have helped turn parts of the woods into a place of small surprises. Now Parks Tacoma is removing some of the art.
The park district says items attached to trees can damage them and interfere with maintenance. Supporters say the displays are part of what makes the park special. The fate of the fairy gardens themselves remains unclear.
