Downtown Tacoma Is Becoming a Giant Puzzle Course This Saturday
Downtown Tacoma will become an enormous outdoor puzzle course this Saturday as the third annual Tacoma Puzzle Hunt returns to Theater Square. The free event combines elements of a scavenger hunt, escape room and walking adventure, sending teams through a series of challenges around the city.
The hunt runs from noon to 4:30 p.m. this Saturday, September 26, with a $500 grand prize awaiting the winning team. Registration is required, and organizers encourage participants to assemble their teams before arriving.

Could You Balance Tacoma’s Budget? The City Wants You to Try
Tacoma is facing a projected $40 million General Fund shortfall in its 2027–2028 budget—and the city is inviting residents to try closing it themselves. A new online simulator lets users adjust spending across city services while watching the remaining deficit rise or fall.
The exercise comes with real-world constraints: most categories can only be changed by 20%, while debt and pension obligations cannot be touched. Residents can submit their finished budgets and comments to the city before the City Council begins reviewing the proposed budget in October.

Watch Grizzlies, Otters and Bobcats Take on Pumpkins at Northwest Trek
Pumpkins will become snacks, toys and enrichment activities when Pumpkin Chomp & Stomp returns to Northwest Trek Wildlife Park on October 3 and 4. Visitors can watch grizzly bears, river otters, raccoons and bobcats sniff, smash, roll and devour their seasonal treats.
Special animal presentations are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. each day, with different animals featured Saturday and Sunday. The event is included with regular admission or membership, and costumes are welcome as long as visitors leave scary masks and face paint at home.
