Puyallup Artist Is Transforming the Face of the Tacoma Dome

The Tacoma Dome has a striking new landmark—and every person, canoe and symbol painted across it contributes to a much older story.
Created by Puyallup Tribal member and Coast Salish artist Anthony Duenas, the mural honors the generations that came before, those living here today and the ones still to come. The public is invited to a tribal blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony next week.

One Morning, 14 Locations: Tacoma Is Rallying for a Citywide Cleanup

Tacoma is turning one Saturday morning into a citywide volunteer effort, with cleanups planned at 14 locations on September 19. Residents can choose a site near them and spend two hours helping remove litter from streets and public spaces.
Bags, gloves and litter-picking equipment will be provided, and volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome. The downtown effort will go even further, adding graffiti removal and new public trash cans to the morning’s work.

A 137-Year-Old Piece of Washington History Is Coming to Tacoma

Washington’s original handwritten state constitution is leaving its protected archives for a rare one-day appearance in Tacoma. The 137-year-old document will be displayed at the Washington State History Museum from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 17.
The constitution was drafted by 75 delegates during the summer of 1889, ratified by territorial voters that October and followed weeks later by Washington’s admission as the 42nd state. Admission to the museum will be free throughout the document’s six-hour display.
