Proctor Food Fest Returns Sunday
Come hungry to Proctor this Sunday.
The Proctor Food Fest returns Aug. 30 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. near North 27th and Proctor Streets, bringing together 15 local food and drink vendors for an afternoon in the Historic Proctor District. The lineup includes everything from lumpia, gyros and pizza to crepes, macarons, shaved ice, coffee and aguas frescas.
There will also be live music throughout the day, with James Coates, Cody Bartels, Yungstf, Belle et Bete and I Blame Beatrice scheduled to perform. The event is open to the public and provides a good excuse to eat your way through Proctor while supporting local food makers and neighborhood businesses.

Why Does Tacoma’s Hylebos Bridge Keep Closing?
The Hylebos Bridge is open again after another maintenance closure this week — but if it seems like you've been hearing about Hylebos closures a lot lately, you have. The 87-year-old movable bridge has experienced several interruptions this year, including an April malfunction caused by electrical shorts from corrosive ocean air, a June centerlock replacement, a July closure and this week's inspection of that same critical centerlock system.
The bigger issue is that the Hylebos isn't an ordinary bridge. It must carry vehicles and open around the clock for marine traffic, which means maintaining mechanical and electrical systems in a harsh industrial waterfront environment. The City hasn't announced another closure, but occasional maintenance and inspections are likely to remain part of life for a movable bridge first built in 1939.

Pierce Transit Bus Schedules Change Sunday — Here’s What Tacoma Riders Should Know
Pierce Transit is changing schedules on a number of routes beginning Sunday, Aug. 30, including several that serve Tacoma. The adjustments are intended to improve transfers, better match school schedules and line up some trips more closely with Sounder trains.
Among the more noticeable Tacoma changes: Route 2 will better align with Foss High School’s afternoon schedule, Route 11 is adding a 2 p.m. weekday trip serving Mason Middle School, Route 57 has trips shifting by as much as 19 minutes, and Route 400 is being retimed for better Sounder connections. Riders should check their route before Sunday rather than assuming their usual bus will arrive at the same time.

Soundview’s World Series Journey Comes to an End, But What a Run!
Soundview Little League's incredible World Series run came to an end Tuesday, with Tacoma falling 4-2 to Alabama in an elimination game in Williamsport. Soundview trailed early but fought back, scoring in the fourth and again in the sixth and bringing the potential tying run to second base before Alabama recorded the final out. Tacoma finishes its first Little League World Series appearance 2-2.
But the score is hardly the biggest story. Soundview arrived in Williamsport as Northwest Region champions, opened the World Series with victories over Alabama and Texas, and gave Tacoma a team to cheer for on the national stage. These kids represented their league and their city wonderfully. Congratulations, Soundview — Tacoma is proud of you.
