Thanksgiving Day Runs - Tacoma Local Minute

Thanksgiving morning will bring races to two Tacoma neighborhoods. The Norpoint Turkey Trot and Tacoma City Turkey Trot are both scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 26, with 9 a.m. starts. Norpoint offers a chip-timed 3K and 5K run or walk beginning and ending at the Center at Norpoint. Proctor’s 5K starts and finishes at Fleet Feet Tacoma, followed by a 1K for kids at 10:15 a.m.

The Norpoint route runs through Northeast Tacoma and includes some of the area’s hills. The course welcomes strollers and animals, and children 5 and younger can participate for free with a registered adult. Registration is $35 for either distance through Nov. 8, or $20 without a T-shirt; prices rise Nov. 9. Nov. 12 is the deadline to register for a race shirt.

The Proctor race has a 5K for runners and walkers and a separate kids’ 1K for ages 12 and younger. Adults running alongside children in the 1K do not need to register for that distance. The 5K costs $62.50 until Nov. 15, when the next price increase takes effect. A shirt is included with 5K registration when ordered by Nov. 12.

Norpoint’s event also supports the NE Tacoma Healthy Kids Coalition, which serves students and families at five Northeast Tacoma schools. Donations of items such as juice boxes, fruit cups, microwavable macaroni and cheese cups, and protein bars can be dropped off at the Center at Norpoint through Dec. 18 or brought to the race. The two events give Tacoma families different neighborhood routes and race options to consider before the holiday meal.
