The Port of Tacoma is expanding its support for Jobs 253, Tacoma Public Schools’ career-connected internship program. Port commissioners approved an interlocal agreement with the district to support workforce development, and the Port’s November update highlighted the Jobs 253 expansion.
Eligible Tacoma Public Schools high school students can apply for hands-on placements with local organizations and businesses. Students who complete program requirements earn 0.5 elective credit and a $500 stipend. Most opportunities are available to students beginning at age 14, though each placement may have its own age, schedule or eligibility rules.
The district’s Session 2 internship window runs Nov. 30 through Feb. 4. Current listings include tutoring at Bryant Neighborhood Center, assisting in a Hilltop Artists glass-art classroom and supporting recreation activities at Sequoia Therapeutic Recreation.
Students apply through SchooLinks using their district accounts. The current opportunity page says applications for Session 2 opened Oct. 15; it does not list a closing date. The Port’s public update does not specify the amount of its expanded support.
