Tacoma pet owners could soon have another option when a sick or injured animal needs care outside normal veterinary hours. PawDoc Urgent Care is planning to open a new veterinary urgent care and dentistry center near Tacoma Mall in January 2027.
The clinic is planned for Evergreen Plaza at 5225 Tacoma Mall Blvd., where PawDoc has filed permits to convert a vacant retail space into a veterinary clinic. The space was previously occupied by Pacific Golf & Turf before that business moved to Federal Way.
PawDoc is advertising for an urgent-care veterinarian to work evenings and weekends, potentially filling a useful gap for pet owners whose regular veterinarian is closed but whose animal may not need a full emergency hospital visit. The company describes the Tacoma location as a facility designed to provide general practice and urgent care.
The Tacoma clinic would be part of Lakefield Veterinary Group, a family-owned veterinary hospital company based in Kent. PawDoc already operates an urgent-care facility in Port Orchard that opened in May 2025, as well as a surgery and dental center in Katy, Texas.
Exactly what services, hours and staffing the Tacoma location will offer haven't been announced yet, and the project is still working its way toward opening. But the planned evening and weekend availability could make the clinic especially useful for Tacoma-area pet owners who suddenly find themselves looking for veterinary help after hours.
