Tacoma Bread Company - Tacoma Local Minute

Downtown Tacoma has a new bakery tucked into an alley in the historic Theater District. Tacoma Bread Company opened over the weekend at 624 Court C, introducing a small, blue storefront built around scratch-made bread, pastries and coffee.

The bakery is run by Mike and Ann, who have spent years bringing the idea to life. Their loaves take time: the bakery gives each one two days to develop its flavor and crust. The menu describes the signature T-Dome boule as a round sourdough loaf made with a starter and a long overnight rest.

The Tacoma-shaped inspiration is more than a name. The T-Dome boule is shaped like the Tacoma Dome, giving the bakery a distinctly local centerpiece. It joins a traditional baguette and a sour brioche sandwich loaf on the opening menu.

There are also a few smaller treats to go with a loaf or a cup of coffee: walnut mini-cakes, lemon bars and brownies. The coffee menu includes espresso, Americanos, macchiatos, cortados, flat whites, cappuccinos, lattes and mochas, plus an iced blended drink. The beans come from Blossom Coffee Roasters on Vashon Island.

Tacoma Bread is open Thursday through Sunday, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The owners aren’t on social media, so for now, the best way to welcome them—and find out what’s coming out of the oven—is to stop by in person.
