REI - Tacoma Local Minute

Tacoma REI is one of 10 stores bringing back a favorite member tradition: the Garage Sale. It’s the store’s first since 2020, and REI is testing a new version of the event built around its Re/Supply used-gear program. The Tacoma sale runs Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Shoppers can browse discounted used outdoor gear and clearance items, including newly available Re/Supply inventory. The event also gives people a chance to trade in eligible used gear for an REI gift card. What’s available will depend on the store’s inventory, so there’s no guarantee of a particular find.

There’s no admission charge, but the sale is open only to REI Co-op members. People who aren’t members can join at the store with a one-time $30 fee for lifetime membership.

REI is also offering 20% off one Re/Supply apparel or footwear item during the event. Members who make a qualifying purchase can get a free tote while supplies last. The company says the Garage Sale is a pilot: it will gather feedback from members and store teams before deciding what comes next.

The News Tribune reports on why Tacoma is among the stores selected for the return and what the test could mean for the event’s future. Read the full report from The News Tribune here.
