Titlow’s 100th Birthday Comes With a Look at Its Surprising Past
Titlow Park is turning 100, and Tacoma’s West End is marking the occasion with a free celebration on Sunday, October 4. There will be a history talk, a community mural and a photo scavenger hunt with prizes.
But the park’s story began before 1926. The lodge once belonged to a waterfront hotel where visitors arrived by steamer and spent their days beside the lagoon. Discover how a seaside resort became one of Tacoma’s favorite places to spend an afternoon.

Washington’s Top Line Worker Crews Will Face a Rescue Test in Tacoma
Most of us think about line workers when the power goes out. This Wednesday, Tacoma residents can watch them demonstrate a skill they hope they’ll never need on the job: rescuing an injured coworker from the top of a utility pole.
Four crews will face off at Tollefson Plaza in a free public competition. There’s an added challenge waiting for the finalists, too. See what the crews will be asked to do and why Tacoma Power has a stake in the outcome.
