After Nearly Two Years, Proctor’s New Pub Is Finally Opening
The long wait at 2717 N. Proctor St. is over. The Snug Family Pub opened September 22 in the renovated house that has kept neighbors guessing for nearly two years. The family-friendly Irish-American pub is starting with limited service through Thursday, September 24, from 3 to 8 p.m. Reservations are recommended; a grand-opening date and regular hours have yet to be announced.
Inside, the Evans family has made room for a downstairs dining area and Snug Room, an upstairs lounge and Lookout, and a heated patio. For Paul and Andrea Evans, opening the pub also brings a family connection to Proctor full circle: Paul’s late father, Bill, once helped shape the neighborhood and remodeled this very building. The pub has yet to publish its current menu, leaving one more reason for curious neighbors to take a look.

Bingo, Body Slams and a Century of Stories at the Tacoma Armory

The Tacoma Armory has seen more than a century of Tacoma nights out. Built in 1908 for the Washington National Guard, it later hosted concerts, community gatherings and professional wrestling. Now two very different events are headed for its historic floor: Cosmic Bingo on Saturday, September 26, and Grit City Championship Wrestling on Saturday, October 3.
Cosmic Bingo swaps numbered cards for music trivia, a live DJ and blacklights. A week later, Trick or Beat brings live wrestling back to a building where Northwest stars once competed. Tacoma Arts Live says the last documented match of the Armory’s original wrestling era took place in 1966—making this more than an unusual double bill. It’s a chance to experience an old Tacoma gathering place doing what it was built to do: fill up with people.

Could You Help in an Emergency? Tacoma Will Teach CPR for Free
Tacoma’s free CPR Weekend returns October 3–4, with six sessions across two locations. Saturday’s classes are at the Eastside Community Center; Sunday’s are at Henry Foss High School. Each class takes about two and a half hours and gives participants hands-on practice with CPR manikins and automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
The training is open to all ages. Participants who attend the lecture and can perform two minutes of adult CPR receive a Tacoma Fire Department CPR card. The course also covers what to do for a choking person and how to recognize signs of an opioid overdose. It does not meet healthcare-provider CPR requirements or provide first-aid certification..
