A 6½-Foot Robot Is Now Roaming a Tacoma Fred Meyer
Shoppers at the Fred Meyer at 4505 S. 19th St. may encounter an unusual new presence gliding through the grocery aisles. The 6½-foot-tall machine is named Tally, an autonomous inventory robot that scans shelves for missing products, pricing errors and merchandise placed in the wrong location.
Fred Meyer says the technology will help employees identify inventory problems more quickly and spend additional time assisting customers. The union representing many of the company’s workers is less enthusiastic, warning that the expanding use of robots could eventually reduce employee hours or shift work away from people.

Tacoma Film Festival’s New Lineup Spans Cult Movies, Music Videos and Indie Discoveries
The Tacoma Film Festival has revealed the lineup for its 20th-anniversary celebration, running October 22–25 at The Grand Cinema and other Tacoma venues. This year’s marquee events include an opening-night documentary about a small Wyoming town staging The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a music-video showcase followed by live performances and the return of an award-winning sci-fi film featuring an early performance by Julia Garner.
Individual tickets go on sale to the general public on September 25, while VIP passes are already available. Tacoma students and residents with EBT or Quest cards can also receive a limited number of free day-of tickets to most screenings through Tacoma Creates..

Incline Cider Is Leaving Brewery Blocks, but the Brand Is Staying Put
Incline Cider House will close its taproom at 2115 S. C St. after service on Saturday, September 26, ending a seven-year run at Tacoma’s Brewery Blocks. Owners Jordan Zehner and Lesley Shields say the business remains strong, but its lease is expiring and the company needs more room to expand the taproom experience.
The closure does not spell the end of Incline Cider. Its retail and wholesale operation will continue without interruption, and the owners are searching for a new Tacoma home. They are considering several neighborhoods—and even concepts that could pair Incline with another local business—but have not announced a location or reopening date.
