Your Next Tacoma Walmart Order Could Drop From the Sky

A Tacoma Walmart wants to turn part of its parking lot into a base for drone deliveries. Representatives for Walmart and its drone partner, Wing, submitted a building-permit application September 9 for fencing, storage and other equipment at the Supercenter at 1965 South Union Avenue.
If the proposal moves forward, customers within roughly six miles could order eligible groceries, household essentials and other small products through Wing’s app. A drone would fly the order to a selected spot outside the customer’s home and lower it on a tether—potentially completing the entire delivery in less than 30 minutes. The application remains under initial city review, however, and neither company has announced when—or whether—the Tacoma service will begin.

Two Tacoma Restaurant Veterans Are Creating McKinley’s Next Neighborhood Haunt

Maxine’s Tacoma
The longtime home of Fergie’s on the Ave is preparing for a two-part transformation. Chef Craig Tronset and bar professional Kylie Agostini are opening Maxine’s and The Well at 3504 McKinley Avenue, combining a bright, modern diner with a darker neighborhood tavern under the same roof.
Maxine’s will serve thoughtful but approachable food ranging from sandwiches and shareable plates to homemade crumpets and a contemporary take on toad in the hole. Next door, The Well will offer inventive cocktails without looking down on anyone who simply wants a beer and a shot. The owners hope to open in late 2026 while preserving the welcoming neighborhood character that has defined the century-old building for generations.

Cider, Crafts and a Curious Prize Await at Point Defiance Today

Fort Nisqually, at Point Defiance Park
Fort Nisqually’s Harvest Home isn’t simply another fall festival. Today’s celebration invites visitors to press apples from the museum’s orchard, watch apple butter cook over an open fire, sample treats from the period kitchen and try traditional crafts inside a reconstructed 1850s trading post.
There are stranger traditions waiting, too. Visitors can decorate the hock cart used to celebrate the year’s final harvest, watch as two teen interpreters are crowned Harvest King and Queen, or enter a homemade preserve in a contest whose winner gets to “take the egg.” The festivities run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today inside Point Defiance Park.
