South Tacoma’s Newest Coffee Shop Was Built With Families in Mind
Kaja & Jay Yazzie, Founders of Anaïs Coffee
Anaïs Coffee has opened inside historic Edison Square at 5415 South Tacoma Way, bringing locally roasted coffee, house-made cookies and a deliberately family-friendly gathering place to the neighborhood. Married owners Kaja and Jay Yazzie created the café with couches, children’s books, soft toys and room for kids to play while their parents relax, visit or work.
The café also offers an unusual “line delivery” service: Customers waiting outside businesses between South 54th and 56th streets can order online and have their coffee brought directly to the sidewalk. Anaïs is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday and is planning book clubs and other community activities inside Edison Square.

Want to See What Happens Behind the Port Gates? Take This Free Tour
Tacoma residents can get a rare look behind the gates of the city’s working waterfront during a free Port of Tacoma bus tour on Friday, September 18. The approximately two-hour trip travels through the Port and Tideflats, giving passengers a closer look at the ships, terminals, cranes and equipment that connect Washington with international markets.
The tour begins at 10 a.m. at the Fabulich Center, 3600 Port of Tacoma Road. Reservations are required, children 6 and older may participate, and passengers over 17 must bring photo identification. Space is limited—and with the Port’s upcoming boat tours already sold out, anyone interested should reserve a seat early.

Tacoma Can Welcome Fall the 1855 Way at Fort Nisqually
Fort Nisqually Living History Museum will welcome fall with cider pressing, seasonal crafts, period cooking and hands-on activities during Harvest Home on Saturday, September 12. Visitors can help press apples grown in the museum’s orchard, sample historic treats and decorate the hock cart used to celebrate the year’s final harvest before watching the crowning of the Harvest King and Queen.
The celebration runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. inside Point Defiance Park. Admission is $17 for adults, with discounted tickets for seniors, active-duty military members and children. Children younger than 4 and Fort Nisqually museum members are admitted free.
