Food Pantry Serving 4,000 Tacomans a Month Needs a New Home

My Sister’s Pantry
My Sister’s Pantry, one of Tacoma’s busiest sources of emergency groceries, must leave the First United Methodist Church building it has occupied for more than two decades. The pantry reportedly serves approximately 4,000 people each month and distributed 390,000 pounds of food during 2024 through its main location, Tacoma schools, Tacoma Community College and other community programs.
The organization has not yet announced a confirmed new address, and replacing its current space will require far more than an empty room. The pantry needs sufficient storage, room for volunteers and clients, accessibility and dependable transportation connections. Its search for a new home could now become a community-wide effort to protect a service thousands of Tacoma residents rely upon.

One of Tacoma’s Most Prolific Taggers Just Got a $32,000 Bill
Tacoma residents who have watched the “XCIT” tag spread across freeway barriers, retaining walls and other public property can finally enjoy a little accountability. Tony Kim Lim, identified by authorities as the prolific tagger behind the familiar signature, has paid $32,217 in restitution to WSDOT and spent one day in the Pierce County Jail.
Lim was reportedly caught spray-painting highway infrastructure twice in 2024—including once while completing the “X” in an “XCIT” tag. The restitution reimburses documented cleanup expenses that otherwise would have been paid by taxpayers from the same maintenance budget used for potholes, guardrails, bridges and snow removal.

There Will Soon Be Trolls Hiding Along the Trails at Point Defiance Zoo

Four enormous wooden trolls will soon be hiding among the gardens, trails and animal habitats at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. The seven- to nine-foot sculptures are part of Danish artist Thomas Dambo’s TROLLS: A Field Study, an outdoor exhibition made primarily from reclaimed pallets, scrap wood, branches and other discarded materials.
Each of Tacoma’s four trolls has its own name, personality and reason for studying human behavior. The exhibition opens October 15 and runs through January 24, 2027, with admission included in regular zoo tickets and memberships. Eight additional trolls will be stationed at Northwest Trek Wildlife Park.
