Pilates in the Pagoda?

Here’s a Tacoma fitness option a lot of people probably don’t know about: Parks Tacoma is offering yoga and Pilates classes at the Point Defiance Pagoda this September.
Pilates at the Park is offered Tuesdays at 8:30 or 9:30 a.m., while Sunrise Yoga runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7 a.m. Classes are primarily held inside the historic Pagoda, with the possibility of moving outdoors when the weather cooperates.
So yes — you can actually start your morning doing Pilates or yoga in one of Point Defiance Park’s most distinctive buildings, with the park and Puget Sound right outside. Classes run Sept. 1–29, and registration is open now through Parks Tacoma.

Keep Kids and Pets Out of Wapato Lake
Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department has issued a toxic algae caution advisory for Wapato Lake, after water samples taken this week showed a potentially harmful bloom.
People and pets should stay away from areas where algae is visible — including swimming, wading and fishing. Toxic algae can appear green, brown, red or bluish, and wind can move it around different parts of the lake. Exposure can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rashes and muscle weakness.
The Health Department plans to test Wapato Lake again next week, but says the advisory will remain in place for two weeks even if the bloom disappears, out of caution.

Got a Young Performer at Home?

Tacoma Musical Playhouse has just two spots left in its final CampTMP session of the summer — a one-week Winnie the Pooh KIDS camp starting next week.
The camp is designed for kids entering grades 1–5 and introduces young performers to singing, acting and musical theater in a fun, supportive setting. Campers will spend the week building confidence, making friends and bringing the Hundred Acre Wood to life onstage.
It’s the final CampTMP session of the summer, so families interested in grabbing one of the last two openings can register now here.
