Block Party in South Tacoma Today

South Tacoma’s First Friday Block Party is taking over two blocks of the South Tacoma Business District on Friday.
The event runs Friday, August 7, from 4 to 9 p.m., with the Puget Block at 5416 S. Puget Sound Ave. and the Washington Block at 5429 S. Washington St. Together, the blocks will feature more than 70 vendors, along with food, live music, DJs, games, and entertainment behind Edison Square and throughout the district.
Visitors can step inside Edison Square for live music, shop the outdoor market, grab food, and explore nearby South Tacoma shops, restaurants, and businesses along the way. Admission is free, but there is no designated event parking lot, so attendees should plan on finding street parking nearby and exploring on foot..
Ralphie Needs a Cast

Tacoma Musical Playhouse is getting an early start on the holidays.
Audition sign-ups are now open for A Christmas Story: The Musical, the stage version of the beloved holiday story about Ralphie Parker and his quest for a Red Ryder BB gun. Set in 1940s Indiana, the musical includes schoolyard adventures, family chaos, Christmas wishes, and plenty of nostalgia.
The TMP production will be directed by Nick Fitzgerald, with music direction by Alison Jacobs-Lake. Tacoma Musical Playhouse says auditions are open to both seasoned performers and people hoping to make their TMP debut, with sign-ups available through Casting Manager here
A New Way to Chill Downtown

Downtown Tacoma has a new place to chill out — literally.
Plunge + Restore recently opened at 1101 Fawcett Ave., Suite 111, offering cold plunge baths, infrared saunas, restorative yoga, sound bath meditation, and a “Zen Den” for relaxing before heading back into the day. The studio describes itself as an inclusive wellness space for all body types, genders, sexual orientations, and experience levels.
Owner Toni Fuqua says the goal is to create a space where people feel welcome, safe, valued, calm, and empowered. The studio is open most days of the week, with booking available online or through its app.
