Museums Open Free

Pierce County museums are opening their doors for free on Saturday, August 8th, as part of Washington’s celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
Museum Day is set for Saturday, August 8, with participating museums across the state offering free or discounted admission. In Pierce County, that includes several Tacoma-area favorites such as Museum of Glass, Foss Waterway Seaport, Washington State History Museum, LeMay Collections at Marymount, the Buffalo Soldiers Museum, and Browns Point Lighthouse.
It is a good excuse to plan a low-cost local outing, revisit a museum you have not been to in a while, or take kids somewhere educational before summer starts winding down. Hours vary by museum, and Fort Nisqually Living History Museum is offering 25% off admission rather than free admission, so it is worth checking details before heading out.
Outdoor Burn Ban In Effect

Washington is under a statewide wildfire emergency as hot, dry, windy conditions raise the risk of fast-moving fires.
Gov. Bob Ferguson issued the emergency Saturday as the state faces its fourth consecutive statewide drought. The National Weather Service rated the fire risk as “extreme” in Eastern Washington and issued a Red Flag Alert ahead of what officials described as unprecedented and particularly dangerous conditions.
The emergency includes a statewide ban on outdoor burning, including yard debris fires, trash burning, weed burning, bonfires, and campfires outside approved structures such as fire rings. State fire officials are also urging people to avoid anything that could spark dry grass or vegetation, including dragging safety chains, tossing smoking materials, or working near dry areas where sparks can start a fire.
The ban will remain in effect through the end of September.
Mini Golf In the Dark

South Tacoma has a new rainy-day activity with a little neon glow.
Vibe Putt Play opened yesterday, at 8402 S. Hosmer St., offering indoor glow-in-the-dark mini golf and dozens of arcade games. The new business is located above Secret Burger Kitchen in the building attached to the Holiday Inn.
The course has 10 holes and a retro ’90s theme, complete with neon murals, cassette and boom box artwork, and a soundtrack focused on ’90s hip-hop and R&B. Mini golf costs $14 per person, with kids under 3 free, and the arcade includes 45 games ranging from classics to newer VR experiences. Vibe Putt Play will also be available for birthday parties and other events.
For more information and hours visit the Vibe Put Play website here.
