Jimothy Teaches Tacomans
Jimothy may be the internet’s darling right now, but Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium says there is one important lesson for Tacoma visitors: love raccoons from a distance.
The zoo says feeding wild raccoons — or leaving food where they can get to it — has been a recurring problem around the grounds. Even a few handouts can teach raccoons to approach people instead of foraging naturally. Over time, that can make them bolder, increase the chance of bites or scratches, and put both visitors and raccoons at risk.
So whether it is Jimothy online or a wild raccoon wandering near your lunch at Point Defiance, the rule is the same: do not feed it. If a raccoon comes near, move away with your food, clean up after yourself, and let the animal stay wild.
A Sixth Ave Spot Goes Dark
A family and pet friendly Sixth Avenue taproom has closed after nearly eight years in Tacoma.
Beer Star Tacoma, located at 4328 6th Ave., officially closed Sunday, July 24. The taproom was known for its spacious patio, dozens of taps, and relaxed all-ages atmosphere. In recent months, it had also become home base for The Chicken Supply, the popular Filipino-style fried chicken truck parked outside.
The Chicken Supply says it is working on next steps and hopes to have more information soon. Beer Star’s property has been listed for sale, so it remains to be seen what comes next for the Sixth Avenue space.
Tacoma Wins Little League State Championship
The Soundview All-Starts are the 2026 Washington State Little League Champion!
Tacoma has a Little League state champion!
Soundview Little League won the Washington Little League Major Baseball state championship, earning the District 10 team a spot in the Northwest Region Tournament in San Bernardino, California. The win puts Tacoma on the regional stage, where Soundview will represent Washington against other state champions.
The Northwest Region Tournament runs August 8–13, with Soundview listed as Washington’s team. Their first scheduled game is against Oregon on Saturday, August 8, at 6 p.m. Pacific, and the regional championship game is scheduled for Thursday, August 13. The winner of the Northwest Region advances to the Little League Baseball World Series.
