Vote Early, Drop Off

Washington voters are being urged to use ballot drop boxes instead of mailing ballots this year, especially close to Election Day.
County auditors say changes at the U.S. Postal Service have made it harder to guarantee that a mailed ballot will receive a timely postmark and arrive quickly enough to be counted. Washington ballots can still be returned by mail, but auditors say drop boxes provide more certainty because ballots are collected directly by election workers and can be accepted up until 8 p.m. on Election Day.
Pierce County has 57 official ballot drop boxes, and voters can track their ballot status at votewa.gov. The message from election officials is simple: vote early when possible, and use a drop box if Election Day is getting close.
Drop box locations for Pierce County can be found here.
Tacoma’s Tiny Desk?
NPR may have its Tiny Desk, but Tacoma’s own Brown & Haley has Sound Bites.
The Almond Roca maker uses the quarterly music series to spotlight local artists, pairing Tacoma stories with live performances connected to the company’s longtime hometown roots. The newest Sound Bites installment features Tacoma native singer-songwriter Erina, along with her son, Mason, after the two received a private tour of the Brown & Haley factory.
Erina and Mason performed “Where Is Your Heart,” a song they wrote together and plan to officially record in studio this fall. The new Sound Bites performance has just been released, with Brown & Haley teasing more music, stories, and community talent to come.

Kid-Friendly Brewery Downtown

Families looking for a casual downtown spot for tacos, snacks, and locally brewed beer have a new option in Tacoma.
Redd Dog Brewing Co. has opened at 2302 Fawcett Ave., bringing a family-friendly brewery and taproom to the former Black Fleet Brewing space. The Scelzi family’s new spot serves a snack-friendly Mexican menu, with QR code or at-the-bar ordering that makes it flexible for groups, solo visits, and low-key meals. Menu options include mix-and-match tacos, elotes, esquites, chips, guacamole, and other shareable bites.
The beer lineup leans toward approachable ales and lagers, including a Kölsch, pilsner, and Mexican lager, with an Oktoberfest planned for the season. Redd Dog is open daily at 11:30 a.m., and a spacious beer garden is currently under construction with hopes of catching some late-summer sunshine.
