Savor Fest PNW returns to Tacoma this Sunday with a family-friendly afternoon of food, performances, drinks, and cultural celebration.

The sixth annual festival takes place Sunday, July 19, from noon to 6 p.m. outside Mi Centro at 1208 S. 10th St. The free-to-enter event will feature about two dozen food vendors serving dishes from around the world, including Cambodian, Trinidadian, Filipino, Venezuelan, Jamaican, Southern barbecue, dim sum, jambalaya, sweets, frozen custard, and more.

This year’s festival also adds a 21-and-up beer garden with beer, wine, cocktails, and gluten-free options. Entertainment includes live performances, chef demos, a take-home mercado, Disney-style character meet-and-greets, a K-pop mini concert, and fire-dancing. Organizers encourage visitors to use nearby street parking, overflow parking at Tacoma Housing Authority, or public transit.

Visitors to Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium can now spot three young Magellanic penguins exploring Penguin Point with the rest of the waddle.

Chimi, Churri, and Malbec have officially traded their fluffy baby down for waterproof feathers and graduated from swimming lessons, marking the next big step since the chicks hatched in May. The zoo previously announced that two chicks hatched to penguin pair Pink and Red, while a third hatched to Purple and White after special incubation support from the animal care and veterinary teams.

The hatching was part of the zoo’s ongoing conservation work for Magellanic penguins, a threatened species that faces challenges in the wild from oil spills, plastic pollution, and overfishing. Visitors who remember the chicks as tiny balls of fluff may now get to see them out in the habitat, learning the ropes alongside the rest of the Penguin Point colony.

UW Tacoma alumni, students, friends, and Rainiers fans are invited to Cheney Stadium next month for Paint the Park Purple.

The annual purple-and-gold ballpark night returns Friday, August 14 at 7 p.m., when the Tacoma Rainiers take on the Reno Aces. The event is designed as a South Sound Husky community night, giving UW Tacoma alumni and friends a chance to gather, show their Husky pride, and enjoy a summer evening at the ballpark.

Tickets include access to the party deck, a backyard barbecue buffet, beverages, a commemorative shirt, and a fireworks show after the game. Tickets are available now through UW Tacoma’s Paint the Park Purple page.
