We Are Puget Sound Showing at PDZA
A new photo exhibit celebrating Puget Sound is now open at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium.
The Pacific Seas Aquarium will host We Are Puget Sound for the next two years, giving visitors a long-running look at the people, places, and conservation efforts connected to the Salish Sea. The traveling exhibit officially opened June 5, just ahead of World Oceans Day.
The exhibit features photography from the book and regional campaign We Are Puget Sound: Discovering & Recovering the Salish Sea, which highlights both the beauty of the region and the work being done to protect and restore it. The project was created in partnership with Washington Conservation Action and Braided River.
For Tacoma visitors, the exhibit adds another reason to stop by the aquarium while also connecting the experience to a bigger regional story. Puget Sound is part of daily life here, and the exhibit is meant to show not only what makes it special, but why protecting it matters.

Tacoma residents have a chance to donate blood this week — and possibly win a major gas-card prize.
Parks Tacoma is partnering with Bloodworks Northwest for a blood drive at STAR Center on Wednesday, July 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a lunch closure from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Appointments are recommended for the best donation experience, same-day appointments may be available, and donors should bring photo ID. Bloodworks also recommends eating a hearty meal and drinking plenty of fluids before donating.
The drive falls during Bloodworks Northwest’s summer promotion, which runs through July 31. Anyone who gives blood between June 1 and July 31 can enter for a chance to win a $10,000 digital gas gift card. The winner is expected to be notified around August 15 and announced before the end of August.

Les Mis Coming to TMP
Tacoma Musical Playhouse is already looking ahead to one of its biggest productions of the year: Les Misérables.
The musical is scheduled to run September 11 through October 4, 2026, at TMP on 6th Avenue. Single tickets are set to go on sale August 11, with reserved seats priced at $35 for adults, $32 for seniors, students, and military, and $25 for children 12 and under.
TMP has also announced the cast, led by Jerod Nace as Jean Valjean, Jake Atwood as Javert, and April Santo Domingo as Fantine. Rehearsals are now underway, with Harry Turpin directing and choreographing the production and RJ Tancioco serving as music director.
