Tacoma Concert Band - Tacoma Local Minute

Tacoma Concert Band is giving Halloween a live soundtrack this month. Its season-opening concert, “Thriller!,” takes place Saturday, October 24, at 7:30 p.m. at the Pantages Theater, 901 Broadway. Audience members are encouraged to wear costumes and join the seasonal fun.

Inspired by the Michael Jackson hit that gives the concert its name, the program combines Halloween music with cinematic favorites. The band describes an evening of haunting classics and recognizable film music for audiences of all ages. That invitation extends to the audience’s wardrobe, making dressing up part of the occasion.

The musicians behind the evening are part of a longstanding local ensemble led by conductor and artistic director Gerard Morris. Tacoma Concert Band has more than 60 musicians and performs music ranging from classical works to pop. Supporting local wind and percussion musicians—and encouraging school band programs—is part of its mission.

For families, the most useful detail may be the admission offer: the band says tickets are free for young people ages 18 and younger. Those tickets must be obtained in person at the Pantages box office. Families can call 253-591-5894 for ticket information and arrange the youth seats before heading to the show.

Everyone entering the theater needs a ticket, including children, so the free offer still requires that step. Adult tickets are available through the band’s official ticket link. For concert information and access to ticket purchases, visit Tacoma Concert Band’s season page here.
