Fat Zach’s Pizza is preparing to open its first Tacoma restaurant in the former MOD Pizza space at Tacoma Mall, at 4502 S. Steele St. The space is across from BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse.
The restaurant is expected to open this fall, but an exact date has not been announced. It will be the company’s fourth brick-and-mortar location, joining restaurants in Sumner, downtown Puyallup and South Hill.
Owners Zach and Shanna Johns started Fat Zach’s as a food truck in 2019. The business has since grown to include its restaurants, a food truck and catering.
The menu features oversized pizzas, specialty combinations and options customers can customize. One signature pie, the #NBD, pairs ranch, mozzarella and pickles—a combination that gives a sense of the playful approach behind some of the menu’s choices.
Pizza isn’t the only option: Fat Zach’s also serves wings, salads and desserts. The Tacoma location will bring the growing Washington business to a new part of Pierce County.
The restaurant’s Tacoma Mall space is listed as “coming soon,” and the opening date remains unannounced. When the doors open, it will give Tacoma diners a chance to try a pizza business that began on wheels.
